Ξέρεις τι είναι πραγματικά σουρεαλιστικό;
Να είσαι διακοπές στην Ελλάδα, να βλέπεις αυτό το υπέροχο ηλιοβασίλεμα…
…και να διαβάζεις ότι νέος υπουργός Μετανάστευσης είναι ο Θάνος Πλεύρης.
Ναι, αυτός που σε εκδήλωση ακροδεξιού περιοδικού το 2011 έλεγε ξεκάθαρα πως “αν θέλουμε να φυλάμε τα σύνορά μας, πρέπει να υπάρξουν νεκροί”.
Ο ίδιος που συνέχισε:
“Όταν έρχονται μετανάστες, πρέπει να περνούν χειρότερα από την κόλαση. Να μην έχουν να φάνε, ούτε που να μείνουν.”
Και το ακροατήριο χειροκροτούσε.
Fast forward στο 2024… και ο Κυριάκος Μητσοτάκης τον ορίζει ξανά υπουργό.
Όπως είχε κάνει και με τον Μάκη Βορίδη πριν.
Γιατί;
Γιατί θέλει υπουργείο Μετανάστευσης με ανθρώπους που έχουν ακροδεξιό DNA.
Μη σου κάνει εντύπωση.
Ο Πλεύρης είναι παιδί του Κωνσταντίνου Πλεύρη. Όχι μόνο βιολογικά… αλλά και ιδεολογικά.
Αυτή είναι η Ελλάδα του σήμερα.
Σου δείχνει το ηλιοβασίλεμα, ενώ πίσω απ’ το φως παίζεται το πιο σκοτεινό θέατρο εξουσίας.

From hate speech to ministerial power — how Greece’s migration policy now echoes its darkest rhetoric.
In 2011, Thanos Plevris stood at a podium during a far-right event and delivered a statement that would echo for years: “You can’t protect borders unless people die.” The video, recorded during an event for the magazine Patria, showed Plevris advocating for a migrant policy rooted in fear, suffering, and death.
Fast forward to 2025: Thanos Plevris is reappointed as Greece’s Minister for Migration and Asylum by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. It is not the first time Mitsotakis has chosen to fill this position with a figure from the country’s far-right legacy. Before Plevris, it was Makis Voridis, another politician with a well-documented history of extremism.
These are not coincidences. This is a strategy.
What we’re witnessing in Greece is the normalization of an ideology that once existed on the fringes. Plevris is not just the biological son of the neo-Nazi Konstantinos Plevris. He is a political product of that same vision. Alongside figures like Adonis Georgiadis, both he and Voridis transitioned from the LAOS party into the mainstream via New Democracy, carrying with them the ideological residue of xenophobia and ethnic purity politics.
Today, Greek migration policy is no longer guided by humanitarian principles. It is shaped by calculated cruelty, legitimized by appointments like this one. The elevation of Plevris signals that incendiary, dangerous speech — once condemned — can now be rewarded with ministerial portfolios.
This is not simply a domestic issue. It is a European warning.
When the threshold for leadership no longer excludes advocates of state violence against vulnerable populations, democracy begins to mutate. And when the sun sets over the Aegean, we must ask ourselves:
Are we watching a beautiful country… or the silhouette of something darker rising behind the light?
