Μια φορά κι έναν καιρό, ένας Λύκος κουράστηκε να τον φοβούνται όλα τα ζώα.
«Θα αλλάξω» σκέφτηκε.
Έβγαλε λοιπόν τη γούνα του και φόρεσε ένα λευκό τομάρι προβάτου.
Πλησίασε το κοπάδι και είπε με γλυκιά φωνή:
«Μην με φοβάστε πια. Είμαι σαν κι εσάς».
Τα πρόβατα στην αρχή τον πίστεψαν. Μα όταν νύχτωσε, ο Λύκος δεν άντεξε∙ η καρδιά του δεν είχε αλλάξει.
Ούρλιαξε, έδειξε τα δόντια του και όρμησε.
Τότε κατάλαβαν όλοι πως μπορεί κανείς να αλλάξει εμφάνιση, μα όχι την ψυχή του.
Ηθικό δίδαγμα:
Ο λύκος αλλάζει τη γούνα, όχι την καρδιά∙ η φύση του καθενός φαίνεται πάντα στο τέλος.

The Wolf and the Sheep
Once upon a time, a Wolf grew tired of being feared by all the animals.
“I shall change,” he thought.
So he shed his fur and put on a white sheepskin.
He approached the flock and said in a sweet voice:
“Do not fear me anymore. I am one of you.”
At first, the sheep believed him. But when night fell, the Wolf could not resist.
He howled, bared his teeth, and leapt.
Then they all understood: one may change appearance, but not the heart.
Moral:
The wolf may change his coat, but never his heart; true nature always reveals itself in the end.
