Η δήλωση του Ρώσου προέδρου Βλαντιμίρ Πούτιν σε πρόσφατη συνέντευξή του, ότι οι πρόεδροι των ΗΠΑ δεν κυβερνούν πραγματικά αλλά βρίσκονται υπό την εξουσία ενός σκοτεινού μηχανισμού – «ανθρώπων με μαύρα κοστούμια και γραβάτες» – επανέφερε στο προσκήνιο την παλιά και διαρκή καχυποψία απέναντι στο «βαθύ κράτος» της Ουάσιγκτον.
Στην καρδιά αυτής της καχυποψίας βρίσκεται και ο Ντόναλντ Τραμπ. Εξελέγη με την υπόσχεση να τερματίσει τους «ατελείωτους πολέμους» των ΗΠΑ και να αποσύρει τη χώρα από κάθε νέα σύγκρουση. Όμως η πρόσφατη στάση του υπέρ του Ισραήλ και η υποστήριξη ενδεχόμενης στρατιωτικής δράσης κατά του Ιράν, έσπειρε απογοήτευση ακόμη και στους πιο πιστούς του υποστηρικτές: το «κίνημα MAGA».
Πρόσωπα όπως ο Steve Bannon, η Marjorie Taylor Greene και ο Tucker Carlson καταφέρθηκαν εναντίον του, υποστηρίζοντας πως οι ΗΠΑ δεν πρέπει να αναμειχθούν σε νέους πολέμους στη Μέση Ανατολή. Ο ίδιος ο Τραμπ, ωστόσο, απάντησε με υπεροψία: «Εγώ αποφασίζω τι είναι MAGA». Και όταν του υπενθύμισαν ότι ακόμα και οι μυστικές υπηρεσίες των ΗΠΑ δεν θεωρούν πως το Ιράν αναπτύσσει πυρηνικά όπλα, εκείνος απάντησε ψυχρά: «Δεν με νοιάζει τι λένε. Εγώ πιστεύω ότι είναι πολύ κοντά».
Η απόρριψη των δικών του υπηρεσιών, σε συνδυασμό με την απόλυτη προσήλωσή του σε μια προσωπική ατζέντα, επαναφέρουν ένα βασικό ερώτημα: Αν δεν τον ελέγχει ο λαός, αν δεν τον ελέγχουν οι υπηρεσίες, αν δεν τον περιορίζουν οι θεσμοί – ποιος ελέγχει τον πρόεδρο; Ή μήπως η αλήθεια είναι αυτή που λέει ο Πούτιν: Ότι η πραγματική εξουσία βρίσκεται αλλού, σε σκιές και σκοτεινούς διαδρόμους, μακριά από τις κάμερες και τις κάλπες.

In a recent interview, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that U.S. presidents don’t actually run their country. Instead, he suggested, power lies in the hands of a shadowy elite — “men in black suits and ties.” A provocative statement, but one that resonates deeply with critics of the so-called “Deep State.”
Donald Trump once positioned himself as the antidote to this shadow government — a president of peace, committed to ending America’s “endless wars.” His MAGA base (Make America Great Again) rallied behind him, believing in his promise of non-interventionism.
Yet now, as tensions rise between Israel and Iran, Trump’s support for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and his rhetoric against Iran have sparked outrage within his own movement. Figures like Steve Bannon, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Tucker Carlson condemned his stance, calling it a betrayal of MAGA principles. Online, the backlash was even harsher — with 9 out of 10 MAGA followers openly criticizing him.
Trump, however, dismissed the criticism with trademark bravado: “I’m the one who defined MAGA,” he said. And when reminded that U.S. intelligence agencies concluded Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons, he retorted, “I don’t care what they say. I think they’re very close.”
Such defiance — not only of his base but also of American intelligence — raises a deeper concern: Is Trump still the anti-system candidate he claims to be, or has he become a pawn of the very system he once vowed to destroy? Or perhaps, as Putin suggests, U.S. presidents have never really held the reins of power — they’ve only worn the tie.
